Medicaid is a health care program for low-income
families, seniors and people with disabilities. Funding for the program
comes from the federal government as well as the states, with poorer states
contributing a smaller share of Medicaid costs than wealthier states. Medicaid
eligibility standards are determined by individual states, but typically in
order to qualify for assistance applicants must meet income and/or age or
disability requirements.
