Whip
The" whip" is a legislator who assists a political party leader in organizing fellow members to support the party's position and keep them from "crossing the aisle" and voting with the other side. The majority and minority parties in both the House and the Senate have legislators designated as whips.
Currently, Sen. Richard Durbin of Illinois is the majority whip for the Democrats in the Senate and Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi is the minority whip for the Senate Republicans.
The majority whip for House Democrats is Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina. Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri is the minority whip for the Republicans in the House.
