Veto
The power of the head of the executive branch (e.g., the
president, governor, or mayor) to kill a piece of legislation by refusing to
sign it. A presidential veto can be overridden by a 2/3 majority vote in both
the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The Latin term “veto” translates as “I forbid.”
