Food and Drug Administration

Founded in 1906, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services. It is responsible for assuring the safety of all human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, the nation’s food supply, cosmetics and products that emit radiation. The FDA does not regulate water, meat and poultry, illegal drugs, pesticides, restaurants and grocery stores, health insurance, alcohol or advertising.
