Democratic Party
The Democratic Party is one of two major U.S. political parties. First
organized as the Democratic-Republican Party by Thomas Jefferson in 1792, the
party splintered and then reorganized under Andrew Jackson in 1828. The party
officially shortened its name to the Democratic Party in 1844. Since 1912, the
Democratic Party has consistently adopted a more {liberal} stance, both
socially and fiscally, than the {Republican Party}.
