Democratic Party

The Democratic Party is one of two major U.S. political parties. First organized as the Democratic-Republican Party by Thomas Jefferson in 1792, the party splintered and then reorganized under Andrew Jackson in 1828. The party officially shortened its name to the Democratic Party in 1844. Since 1912, the Democratic Party has consistently adopted a more {liberal} stance, both socially and fiscally, than the {Republican Party}.
