Ratification

Ratification is the process for approving binding agreements. In the United States, treaties are ratified when approved by 2/3 vote of the U.S. Senate. Constitutional amendments are ratified when 3/4 of the states have approved the amendment (either by vote in the state legislatures or through state constitutional conventions).
