The Path to the Presidency: Why is it important to vote?

Every year, many students like you turn 18 and cast their first ballot on Election Day, fulfilling the most basic action in a democratic society. Voting is a fundamental process that keeps our system of government working. Through elections, citizens have the ability to decide on who represents them in government, be it a local official, a state or national representative, or the president.

On Election Day, voters will not only be able to select their representatives in government for the next term, but they also often have the ability to decide on measures like bond issues that grant the government permission to borrow money for construction projects and other developments. And sometimes voters cast their ballots on social issues such as allowing same-sex marriage or banning smoking in restaurants and bars.

Reading up on the issues, the candidates, and researching the ballot is also the responsibility of the citizen voter and a responsibility that should not be taken lightly, because it is your voice, with the many others, in unison, that can change the direction of a community, state, nation, and even the world.

Given the importance of elections in the United States, why would do so many people choose not to vote? Why do some refuse to participate in elections when the officials and issues voted on have such strong influence on nearly every aspect of their lives?

Many argue that their vote really doesn’t count. Some say that they don’t know enough about the issues and think they shouldn’t vote. Others still say that they do not know where or how to vote or how to register. News stories about voter ID laws may deter some people from voting.

What do you think of these reasons and how would you respond to family or friends that used them? With a government elected by its citizens and that effects every aspect of our lives from schools to health care to homeland security, voting is an important right in our society. By voting, you are making your voice heard and registering your opinion on how you think the government should operate. Enough voices in unison can elect someone to office, reaffirm or even change the course of our government.

Most candidates also have websites that detail their ideas and goals for the office. To find out where to vote, you can contact your local board of elections and they will tell you where to go to vote.

What do you think?

Why is it important to vote? What would you say to your peers or family members to convince them to vote? Do you think you would be interested in volunteering at your local precinct? Have you already voted in an election? If so, what was your experience like? Join the discussion and let us know what you think!

I believe voting is vital. It's harsh to hear the people that have the opportunity to choose the man or women that's taking over their country for the next four years. Voting is a chance for your decision to be part of who's going to be our next president. Every vote counts for yourself and your country. You want to choose the person that might have a different perspective on making changes to the world. An example is thankfully the city council has raised the smoking age from 18-21.

I think that voting is very important. I feel that voting is so important because it can have a huge impact on your life and all votes count. All votes count because if no one voted than how would we have a president or any thing in your town? Also we can use this to our advantage to vote for someone that we think has the best interest in us and the people in the country. This is one of our basic rights why would you not use this to help the country have the best President to help you? This is why others should vote to have the best things for them and to have a good time in the country

It's important to vote for many reasons, but should everyone vote is the question. If you have no idea what the person is running for and just vote for them just off of details about themself or characteristics you like of them, you are voting for the wrong reason. Does your vote matter? in ways it does, but if you live in the higher populated areas your vote matters most. Before voting for someone, know reasons why you voted for them and make sure it has to deal with how it'll better the position they're running for. All votes decide on who will fulfill a position, as for presidency, that matters most, because if the person don't fulfill the position then we all pay for it :/

I think it is important to vote because every vote counts and the decision who will be a president might depend on your vote. If everybody thinks that his/her vote doesn't change anything, there will be no people voting and it will be weird. You have to vote, because you have a right to choose. Your vote might influence your future life.

I think that it is important for people to vote because what if no one voted. Then there would be no one to say who the real "winner" is. Say if we had to vote for the president and no one voted, and you wanted a like either Obama or Romney then what would happen if you didn't vote. Who would tell us who the new president would be? If that certain person decided who the new president is, then people who wanted the other president will not be happy. They would probably think that it wasn't fair. Some people might even start angry mobs or something.

I think that it is very important to vote. You need to give your opinion. If the voting comes down to just a few votes, then your vote would matter. When you think about it then you are the one that is benefiting from this. If you believe that one presidential candidate has a better idea then you have to give your opinion and say that you like that person. It will help you if you like the idea that he has. And remember, you vote who you want to vote for.

Voting is a very important and big role in every community. There is a wide variety of people in america who do not vote. They either think that their vote doesn't count or don't know much about the situation. If they think that their vote doesn't count, they're wrong. Every vote counts, some more than others depending on the place that they live, but it does still count. If they don't vote then it is a slimmer chance that the person they want to win in the election will win. If they do vote then the chance is higher even if it is by a little. If the person they are voting for doesn't win then it is not much of a difference than if they didn't vote. It is not that hard to take the time to vote and if they don't know much about the situation then they can research it. One day of researching isn't forever. Just one day of researching then the vote. Deciding who you want to win is like deciding your future. It doesn't always come out how you choose, but it sometimes does.

I think that voting is important and that people should vote. By voting, we have the opportunity to change laws, get rid of certain laws, and even vote for the person who could make. our future better or worse. We created this country so we would have freedom of choice and by voting, you are showing that you are taking advantage of your own freedom which is a good thing. If you don't vote, you're giving up a part of your freedom of choice on a certain topic until the next election. I definitely think that voting is a good thing and people should be encouraged to do so.

I think voting is important in our country because we the people deserve the right to make some decisions. Even though the president and vice president and everyone leading up to them determine the outcome, we the people are still the main part of the democracy. voting is also important to young adults because it is signifying their adulthood. Voting for the first time is a crucial part of growing up. Also when people vote for president, they walk away from the tolling booths happy, knowing that they have spoken their minds to the country. Overall voting is important because it enables the people to be part of the government, without having to be a high up official.

I think voting is important because if there was a town of 1000 people and only 500 people voted and the winner of the election won by 50 votes, and 100+ more people voted, there could be a different turn-out. Also if people want a certain person to win but didn't vote, that person might not win because of their one vote. Plus it lets people give their own opinion without peer pressure. Some people choose certain things because of peer pressure. but, with no one else know because of the voting booths.

I agree that it's important to show your identification in order to vote, to prevent voter fraud, and other mishaps. It is important to vote because every American citizen should vote on who their leader is going to be. It is good to vote because the Congress gave you the right to vote instead of choosing the president by their own power. It is also important to vote because being the president and vice president are a big role to take and you as a citizen supports the presidents running. Every person says that their vote will not count, but the count really will. It is also very important to vote because it shows your pride in being an American citizen with having the power to vote. It is important to vote because voting is a important right in our society. Every vote counts to make new schools and different buildings to change our world into a better place. Enough voices in the unison cant elect someone to office, reaffirm, or even change the course of government. That is some reasons why voting is very important in the U.S.

Voting is super important. One vote can change an entire election. It's important to elect leaders who looks out for us and can take the pressure. Sure if people didn't have the time to vote or can't take the pressure advertising and politics put on them, then it's ok not to vote. Although everyone should try to vote. My parents don't vote but i'm thinking about doing it. I hope everyone else does the same!

But if you like Romney then vote for him because he could win if you like Obama that last vote could make him win.

It is important to vote! Everybody has their own opinion, and it is important to let your voice be heard. Every President will do different but you have to chose for YOU. I like the rule saying only 18 year olds and older can vote. I like this because I believe many kids under the age of 18 years might not take the voting seriously. Its important to vote! Its important because the more votes that person has more votes. If you don't vote then you cannot get upset because the person you didn't want won. I think that 12 and 13 year olds should not vote, because i think that they will vote for what there parents want unlike what they want in a president or congress. Some 12 and 13 year old don't really know about this stuff. so, they may just vote for what they hear in their house. To vote i think that you should have to show you ID because then people can't pretend to be you. To vote you need to have a NH license or which ever state you live in, Armed forces ID, US passport or a ID hospital education badge. It is absolutely important to vote!!! Every voice counts when it comes to something this big of a deal...I respect the law about being 18 or older. Minors like Briella's brain is underdeveloped. We don't know that much about politics. YES!!!! We should need an I.D. Others could impersonate other people's identities. Isn't that why it is becoming a law in September of 2013? So people can't show up to vote and say who they're not. What if someone voted under their name and came back wearing something different, different colored hair... and voted under someone else's name? They would vote for the same person twice and the person whose vote they took might have wanted to vote for someone else. Then maybe they would vote under someone else's name! I think having an ID is important. It keeps you safe from impercinators. You could come with an ID and be like can I please vote, My name is" Blah." and the receptionist or the person holding it could say," Sorry, you already voted." That would be messed up. It could be an annnoyance going to your house to grab your ID. But still it's fair. Also I just want to say I believe when you are 16 you should be able to vote. I think that having a ID is really important. It makes voting easy. When you give your ID to the person giving out ballets they would just look at your ID and check your name off. I think it is important to vote because "The Youth" are building this country for us by choosing the president, and I, for one, do not want a president who will only make things worse. Plus, every vote counts, maybe the person you vote for only wins by a few votes, now imagine that you didn't convince yourself and your friends to vote. It's not out of the question that voting is something everyone who can need to do, but I certainly think that if you were given the privilege, you should take advantage of it. If you have ever heard of the saying, "Digging your own grave", that's what not voting is! If you wanted to Obama to win the election, then you should vote for him, not just count on someone else's opinion. It may not be the same is yours, so you should make your opinion stand out! It definitely don't think it'll be the end of the world if you don't vote, and the economy will not get worse, as some other students claimed, it depends on who wins, if things will go bad or worse. Now I'm sure you don't think your vote will mean anything, but think if every person in New York thought their vote wouldn't matter and didn't vote. That's a big number, isn't it? If all of them voted for Obama, it would greatly increase his chance of winning. Your vote does matter, and it is the young adults of today's job to make sure they choose the best president they can.

Voting is important because we have a right to make a difference and change things we don't like. And we all have herd that one person saying; "I don't like how that was changed and how this person is running the office." But they didn't vote at all. So ANYONE who doesn't vote , Doesn't have the right to complain. So I encourage EVERYONE to vote this year. I don't think its important to have an I.D. because not everyone has one and that old person down the bloack mmy not have any thing like an id or passport.

I think that people should vote. I think this because it is not fair that one person would be the king and tell us all what to do. I think that people should vote so that way they have a voice and different people get to be the leader. Also i think that we should be able to pick who we want to be the leader because we could dislike the other person and not want to follow their rules, and that will cause people going to jail and that is not a good thing for this country. Lastly we should be able to vote because we are the ones who have to follow these rules and we should at least like the person that implies them to us. that is all I have to say about the topic of voting and i believe I am right, I hope that you agree with me. Thank you very much for reading.

You should not have to have an I.D with you to vote. The problems with having to have an I.D with you is that elderly people might not have a license anymore so they wouldn't be able to vote. Also, new voters at ages 18 to 22 might not have a passport or license so they wouldn't be able to vote. Voting gives you a chance to let your voice be heard and without that we wouldn't be an different than England. Most other countries don't let people vote and without voting we would be like them.

I Think it's good to vote because it lets you Express how u feel the government is handling things. The government should Enforce the Use of an ID for voting, because someone can use your name to vote on the side u disagreed with. Voting is good for who you think does the best at what they do and will they help you with your problems your having in your life? Lets take the presidential election for a Second, who do you think will do and help the U.S the most. Who will keep their promises. A good president should keep their promises and not argue over who has more money.

It is important to vote because everyone's voice should be heard. If you don't vote, you are basically throwing away your right of choice. Everyone deserves to have a voice. If you don't vote, you really don't even have the right to complain about the elected president, governor, or anyone in the government. Voting is really easy and there is really no excuse not to vote. All you have to do is simply register. Don't know how? It's easy! Go to your local Town Hall, or register online! I am not old enough to vote, but I do know a lot about it! If you don't, you should! Voting is an important part in every American's life and shouldn't be taken for granted. Voting is very important because you are picking who you want to be your leader. Your vote matters because not a lot of people vote so you have a better chance of getting the person you want. People should vote because you want a good a leader for your nation and one person might stick out to you and have that one thing that you need in the world. Take voting into consideration. Make sure you have everything you need to go voting including your ID/license, you have to be 18 or older, must be a United States Citizen, and MUST NOT be an incarcerated convicted felon. Vote for the person you like not what anybody else likes. You have a voice so use it. Speak what you think is right. If you think one person is right for the job, vote for them.

I believe that it is important to vote because if you don't vote then the percentage of the votes may be lop sided. When Bill Clinton was running for president, he won by two votes somewhere. And if someone switched there vote from Bill Clinton to the other guy then it would have been a tie. And if it is a tie than the presidential debates will go on evan longer. So this year I encourage everyone to vote for Obama or Romney.

It’s important to vote because one vote makes a difference. If all the students that didn’t vote, voted this year, the number of votes would be much bigger then they have ever been before. Voting also gives you the right to complain about what the President is doing now, unless of course you voted for them. I always have to tell my family members to vote, I’m not old enough yet so I always strongly suggest to them to vote. If they didn’t vote, I would tell them never to complain about the elected President. I would have them look at statistics shown that says how many people don’t vote and tell them that they could make a difference in that percentage. I would be interested in volunteering at the one where I live. I think that it would surprise me how many people I see there and who I don’t see. I have not voted in an election because I am not of age yet, but once I do turn eighteen I will be able to vote for the President this year.

Now, we take voting for granted. Everyone always complains that there are so many problems with whoever is president, but if people voted for who they would like to be president, there is more of a chance of this candidate getting into office. It is always important to vote because it makes the people part of the election process. They can look back on it and say they were a part of our country's history.

Voting is a civil duty of all citizens and effects the lives of every person in the world. No matter what state or town you live in, voting is important to the outcome of our nation. If you have a thought on who should be the next president or even mayor, you should vote because it is important. However, conspiracies in the voting world are terrible and should not be continued.

I think voting is very important because in order for a young person to vote they must become somewhat involved in the race. They will learn more about the government system and major issues of their country. Voting also gives everyone the right to have that little voice in America that gives them the right to an individual opinion. Voting is a right everyone should take advantage of.

Voting is important because it decides the new leader of our country. If a person doesn't vote because they don't like either of the candidates, they are only hurting themselves because one of them is making it into office. It is a person's decision to vote for who they think will do the best in office.

We’ve heard them all, my vote doesn’t really count, I don’t understand the issues at hand, or I don’t know how to get registered. Although these items at hand may be seen as accurate reasons for not voting I see them solely as excuses. Why wouldn’t you want to have a choice in America’s future and the decisions being made? In a matter of speaking voting allows Americans to let there “voices be heard” So many people complain about the voting outcomes and what’s going on in America when they haven’t made any effort to change these occurrences. If modifications need to be made then there is no better way then to get out, do your part, and vote.

I think people choose not to vote because they feel that their vote is unimportant and that they don't know enough about the topic to vote. I would tell them that it is important because the president that is elected is going to be there for the next 4 years and the issues he/she believes in could affect your job or what you're trying to accomplish in the next 4 years. I have not voted in an election before because I am not old enough but I plan to vote in the future.

Well, I think that alot of the people don't vote because theythink that there vote doesnt matter, that they are not going to make a difference. But, imagine if everyone thought like that, that there one single vote doesnt matter, then the people and congress etc. Would choose everything. They would basically run our lives. They can vote among themselves on is going to be the next president, and we couldnt say anything about it, because it was our choice in chooosing not to vote. One thing that I hate is when people complain about how they hate the way things are, or they hate who our president is, and they didnt even vote in the elections that help decide these things. If your not going to vote, then dont open your mouth to complain.

Even though it is important to vote for who you think would be the best for a political position, I believe that when voting for the popular vote, no matter what, it always depends on what our representatives and senators from congress decide. We should get rid of the electoral college, so normal citizens can truly and really make a difference and voice their opinions.

Throughout the history of this country there are examples of the presidents who lost the popular vote but still became president. To be honest, if voting for president mattered as much as people make it out to be, wouldn't the popular vote (the true vote of the people) be the one that counted?

It is important to vote because you are helping to pass important legislature or block important legislature based on your opinion. It is one of the only times that you can do this, as Congress does it for the rest of the year. I think many people choose not to vote because they have lost faith in the democratic process. They are probably fed up that they have voted numerous times, but they feel their vote hasn't counted cause they have been on the losing side. In reality, they had a very important vote because the losing side might gain strength the next election cycle.

Many people do not vote because many are unsure about each candidate. Most people feel that a candidate can promise and say things that will make the public be for his or her side, but how sure are we to know whether or not he or she will keep his or her word? Voting is very important because we get a say in an election. I think if people who get mad at certain issues and didn't vote should not complain, because they didn't care enough to vote. I couldn't vote for this election because of my age, but my friends who were fortunate to be able so did.

It is important to vote to let your voice be heard, and your opinion known. Some do not vote because they believe that their vote will not matter, people are now beginning to see that this is not true; in the presidential election we saw many close races in states that had their highest voter turn out in history.

In my opinion there are two main reasons that so many people choose not to vote, the first is the general laziness of the populace in staying up to date on the issues in the election or in even just casting a ballot; the second reason I beleive people do not vote is because of the view that voting is not that important, if you miss it one year you can just vote in a new one in 2 years. But, contrary to this view, every election is diffrent, they address different issues and have diffrent candidates, so voting is important to let your opinion be heard on every issue. Since i can not legally vote in elections yet i often find the need to convince others to vote instead, i accomplish this by explaining how a single, well informed vote can turn the tide of an election for the better just as an uninformed vote can change it for the worst, so every vote cast can make a world of diffrence.

The principal reason that citizens do not vote is that they feel like they will not make a difference. For example, voters in Texas are likely not to vote because Texas as been predominately Republican for many years, and will not change; like it is set in stone that Texas will be red and always be red. This election is proof that every vote counts: many states changed color for the first time in decades. This information and election should encourage people to vote and become more involved.

It is important to vote because then the country is closer to getting the whole idea and not just a part of it. I think that people choose not to vote because it is too much of a hassle to go through all the registering steps or stand in line after a hard day of work to show their opinion which seems to be a very little part of the whole votes casted. Also, the people of the younger age do not vote because its such a long and boring process, and the younger you are the less patience you have.

It is important to vote because you need to get your voice out there and it needs to be heard. Why and how can people complain about anything if they do not go out there and vote? If you do not vote then how are you trying to change things? As citizens the best thing that we can do to get our voice heard is to go out and vote. When you vote then you are a part of something that nationwide, and since you have taken part in that then you gave your voice.

Living in a state that votes Republican year after year, many Texans seem to believe that our fate as a Republican state is set. Many Republicans choose not to vote because they figure Texas will vote red anyway. For the same reason, many Democrats choose not to vote: they believe their votes will not matter. However, this recent election has taught me that every vote counts. For instance, Obama won North Carolina in a very close race. Virginia went blue for the first time since the Lyndon B. Johnson election. Every vote matters and has the potential to make a huge impact. To those who can vote but choose not to, I would strongly encourage them to exercise their rights as an American citizen by making an educated choice and casting their votes. While your desired outcome may not happen, it's still important to voice your opinion and be an informed citizen. As Americans, it's our responsibility to vote and keep our representatives in check.

It is important that all people vote so that the majority of the nation is heard. If most Americans decide not to vote, our nation would be in the fate of a minority. Yes people need to vote, but they should do so after they have read up on the candidates and received a clear understanding of what the candidates are going to do for our nation. Voting should not be about race, it should be about the issues at hand.

It is very important to vote because every vote counts. If a person does not vote- they do not get to complain about the elected president or the way he/she runs things because they gave up their voice. That is exactly what a person’s vote is- their voice in the government. I had so many friends that were so opinionated about the candidates and their views on the issues, but they did not vote! So it’s hard for me to sit and listen to their complaints when they gave up their choice! I was not eligible to vote in this year’s election, and I can’t wait till I am able to do so next election! It’s an important right for me that will defiantly exercise next election!

Voting is part of a cornerstone of our Democratic nation: free speech! We are so lucky to live in a country where the option of change is available at the tips of our fingers through a single mark on the ballot. Some countries don't offer that to their citizens. If it hadn't been for my birthday, I would've been at the polls in a heartbeat, determined and with purpose, to vote in the election of the century. It was one of those times when my opinion has a chance of shaping my future and the future of my country. That was why I was in convulsions when my dear Mom announced she wasn't going to vote because the voting stations were too troublesome. After all the countless hours she spent to become a naturalized citizen, here she was, prepared to squander away a coveted privilege she'd earn. She showed no signs of changing her mind even after a couple of weeks of hearing my sister and I emphasize the importance voting, especially because of the present state of the nation, so I was convinced it wasn't going to happen. But then Mom came to her senses and casted her ballot on Election day, becoming the first person in our family to vote for a U.S. president. I was so proud of her.

I think many people chose not to vote because they are unsure of each candidates opinions and don’t know how to make an educated choice. I think many people also don’t vote because they think they don’t have a voice or that one more vote won’t matter. Each person can make a difference with our elections, and not everyone realizest that. I also believe that some people in the U.S. are just lazy, never register, or are too lazy to get out and vote on the day of. It is not that hard to get out there, and I think people need to realize how much each vote truly does matter. It is important to me that everyone votes because they have a voice, and by not voting they are silencing that voice. Each person should vote because it will allow them to make a difference, and choose who will make decisions for the country. These decisions effect each person and they need to take responsibility, if they are going to complain about what is going on, then they need to have voted which will show they at least tried to get what they want or make a difference. I would tell my peers and family members that they have a voice and they need to use it. When they vote they can create change and improve their lives. If they want a better life they need to take control of that and vote to make that happen. I have not already voted in an election but I wish I could have. I can not wait to vote in the next election and help choose what will happen for our country.

The importance of voting is that the more people who vote the more the decision reflect the opinions of the majority of the people who care what happens around their government. By voting not only are you making your voice heard but you are advocating change in your favor because if you are one of those persons who say that one vote won't make a change well more people like that share the same feelings amounting to a huge chunk of votes that would definitely make a change.

It is important to vote for many reasons. The biggest reason is so that the government can be crafted in a fair manner. This way, unfair policies should die because the people they hurt will not vote for them. The best way to explain this is by using examples from a couple of different scenarios. Let's say that there is a bond proposition on the table to allow for a certain group to get $10,000. This group will make sure that they vote to get the $10,000 because it benefits them. If they are the only people voting, then it will pass and we have a problem. On the other hand, if everyone else shows up and votes against it, it will not. Without the common support it will not work. An example of the opposite would be people who are uneducated and decide to vote anyway. These people will vote for someone because of their looks or just because it is someone they heard about. This is why I believe in having the voter registration; if it is too easy to vote, people will do it just because. The people who register usually have a reason to vote. We need to find a good balance in between the two.

Not only is voting a way for a person's voice to be heard in the decisions that the government is going to make with their new president, but it is also a very important experience where the people are involved in one sole cause: to elect our next leader, the president of the United States. Although this is an important factor that affects our lives, many of us still do not vote. Some people are probably not aware that the voting process can be simple or they do not have all the background information about the candidates and therefore choose to not vote because they can not make up their minds. Others are just plain lazy. It is also important to vote because the country that we are living in now needs a sense of direction and choosing a president in a certain political party will help the United States be led in the right direction. Some people just sit and watch the situations go by and complain about how nothing is improving the situation, but if the person does vote, then that is start of wanting to change and their voice can also be heard by that single vote. It is a sign of involvement, and a sign for a person's want for a better world. That is why it is important to vote and if you need any help, don't be afraid to speak up.

Voting, while important, should be part of something larger. It is absolutely essential in a democracy that as many citizens as possible are politically active. It is absolutely essential that as many people as possible are kept informed and are heard on their opinions. Mass flocking to the polls is not what is important to a democracy. We need for everyone to vote, yes, but we need more for everyone to take a stand. It is one thing to display a Red or Blue bumper sticker on our cars every four years, but it is another entirely for us to walk up to the polls every two years because we understand what the government is grappling with and who will best represent our opinion in the matter. Don't just vote – give yourself the chance to be heard. You never know what you can accomplish until you accomplish something.

Voting is important because it allows someone to voice their opinion on who should be president or even on smaller issues. Many people don't vote because they think they already know who is going to win, so their vote wont matter. But in reality, every single vote can help increase a candidates chances in winning the election. Ways to increase participation in voting is showing the people all the different issues that the presidents are discussing and what they are going to do to fix it. I would also tell the people that chose not to vote, that they are just giving up without trying. Their vote can help shape a smallest decision for all we know. People complain on many issues, so if they actually took the time to vote, maybe that issue was one of the things people were voting to fix but there wasn't enough votes to fix it. So one vote really can make a difference on the outcome of a situation.

Now a day it is very important for young’s and adults to vote. By voting you are choosing who should lead the country. It is the future we are voting on and we have to make our voices rise so they can be heard and not lead others choose for us. If you say that your vote does not make a change, you might be wrong, those who do vote will pick the candidate they want and you may not think the same. But you should not only show up the day of the voting and vote. You can also get involved with you community and know you senators, representatives, mayors, governors, or whoever is leading your state. So when the day of voting comes you know who the best candidate is.

Some voters do not choose to vote because they think that one vote will not make a difference in the election. Voting is important because some countries do not allow their citizens to vote and the citizens can express their feelings about the government. But that is not the only way to participate in an election. A citizen can handout information about the candidates by going door by door leaving flyers on the handles. Also a citizen can contribute to a political campaign. They can volunteer to help a candidate receive more votes from undecided voters. Making a project or a website can inform other voters about what positions a candidate stands on. This emphasizes that there are many other ways a citizen can participate, not just voting in an election.

Many people complain about presidents and other leaders, but they didn't vote in the election to put other people in office. If people don't want someone to lead them, they should vote for others. Our country was founded on democratic principles. If the citizens aren't going to vote, we might as well just revert back to being a monarchy. Most Americans feel strongly about certain issues. The candidates also feel strongly about such issues, and by voting Americans can make their voices heard. It's been said that America is becoming more apathetic, but this election disproves that. More people are showing up for early voting at the polls. This is because people care about the country. The economy is in danger; people are tired of troops being in Iraq; abortion and gay rights are highly controversial and contested; people care, and they vote for who would best make their beliefs about the issues a reality. By not voting, they are basically saying they don't care. Sometimes it seems as if we vote about everything – sometimes we really do. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't vote. Yeah, some people get worn out trying to research the candidates and find out why they're running, and sometimes even what they're running for. But honestly, most people don't research. They vote based on party alliances, or some other random reason such as race or gender. Even if it's not informed voting, voting is important. It shows that we aren't a nation filled with apathy. It shows that we actually do care where we're going to end up in the next 2 years, or 4 years, or 6. I'm not yet old enough to vote, but once I am, I plan to be informed and take myself to the polls to vote. This country is too important to me to just sit by and let other people make decisions for me.

It is very important to vote in every election so that your voice can be heard in unison with other like minded people. There are some people out there who think their vote does not matter but if there are enough people with the same opinion who do not vote then of course their opinions will never be heard. Only by voting can you hope to get your opinion out there to the general public. Not only is it your right as an American citizen but it is also your duty to vote.

I think that it is important to vote because it is one of the only chances when you actually get to make your voice heard in the government. You are telling the government your opinion, and they actually pay attention to your opinion. Of course you might end up losing, or you might realize that your opinion in retrospect didn't count, but at least you let Washington, or even your state or local government, know your opinion.

It is important to vote because it is the chance you have to make a difference and to let your voice be heard, no matter how small. To convince people to vote I would let them know that if they chose not to vote, they would ultimately not be able to complain about anything. It would be interesting to be able to volunteer at my local precinct, I think it would be interesting to see how people act around voting and to see who cares and who just votes to vote. I am planning on voting in the next few days and then I will know what its like to actually vote and to see what it feels like to have a say in my future.

Voting is an American process of picking who we have to represent our county, state and country and it saddens me that many citizens don't exercise their right to vote. Americans contribute to democracy by voting and when people vote it keeps democracy alive. Since America's one of the leading powers in the world, voting decides what happens in practically the whole world. My grandmother came into the United States from Mexico and once she was a legal citizen of America she voted in every single election up to her passing. I have volunteered at a few Dallas County Elections because my mom is a certified registrar and election judge. I saw people come in and I believe they left satisfied by contributing to a place of peace and stability. This will be my first year to vote in the upcoming election and I am so excited that I get to express my opinions and make this country a better place for myself and it's people.

I think that it is important to vote because it is our chance to be heard. By voting we place the people we think can lead us best into power. I think that a reason people say they don't vote is because they don't think that their vote will make a difference. But all those people would vote they could be the difference. I would tell my family members that voting is something that most people had to struggle for at some point. At first only church going males could vote then suffrage was extended to all whites males, and so on until there was universal suffrage. To me voting is something to look forward to not be afraid of, and I can not wait for the day I will be able to vote.

I am 18 and I am voting in this year's election. Many of my peers are following suit. This is mainly due to the critical issues presented this year, what with the war and the recession and the very real possibility of the first black president. An interesting coincidence: Just as black men had suffrage before women, so did Obama beat Hillary to the punch. Perhaps Obama will continue the trend and become the first black president. This would truly be a momentous occasion and a wonderful story to tell my children one day. "My first vote went down in history, kids. I lived through history." Votes are remembered this way, but the impact they have now is even greater. The choice is between one path and another. Should you go this way or that way? And because it is an entire nation moving, not everyone is going to be entirely happy with the results. This does not mean that individual opinions are not important. It means individuals should speak up a bit. Make yourself heard. Write to Congress-men and -women. Schedule discussions. Hold political rallies. Read the paper. Watch the news. Be informed. Vote.

In America, we are privileged to live in a country that gives us the freedom to choose. We have a government that is “of the people,by the people, and for the people.” However, how can this be if “the people” do not vote? How is this possible if they do not allow their voices to be heard? Why are Americans not exercising their freedom of choice that is supposed to be held in such high esteem? Unfortunately, voting does not seem to be high on the priority list of the average American. Some of the common excuses non voters use are that they are too busy, uninformed about when and where to vote and who to vote for, not registered, it is too much of a hassle, and that their vote won't make a difference. Most of the population does not realize that voting is not a gift that was given to us; it is a right that was fought for.In the early days of our nation, voting was a privilege reserved for a select group of individuals, mainly white males with large land holdings and an abundant supply of money. With all the clamor of several groups of people working so hard and struggling so long to obtain the right to vote,Americans should be more passionate about the right to vote today. What we must realize is that voting equals power: the power to impact policies that will in-turn impact us, to elect representatives and officials that will promote the values we stand for, and to address problems and issues that influence our lives. This is why it is important to vote not only in federal elections, but also in state and local elections that may affect our lives more directly.

It is important to vote because U.S government grants rights to people that they can share their opinions to make country the best nation of all. It is the people's decision to elect their President. People should know what is good for their country. I would tell my family and peers to convince them that it is important to vote because if you live in United States, you have to know the political forms of this country fully. I have never voted in an election but I really want to because I am interested to know the how the elections take place and what does it feel like when you reach the age of voting.

I think it is important to vote because "we the youth" have to live in this future thats upcoming and if we have to take part in it because its our lives that are in jeopardy and if we don't try to end this crisis going on politically, then it will never end.

Voting is important in our society because it is how we choose who represents us and how our country will be ran. It is important for us to get our voice out there to show what it is we believe. A lot of people complain about the government and how things are all messed up. If we feel a certain way about a topic such as health care, the economy, the war, or any of the other topics the candidates are competing with, then we should vote for the person who would most comply with our views; otherwise, they shouldn't complain if they chose not to have a say in it. Also, many people go and vote and have no idea what the main points of discussion are. They just go and circle a name on the ballot. It is important to be informed of what is going on in our society and not be completely clueless. Voting is a way to get your voice heard.

Voting is a right so many take for granted, in a lot of countries people don't have a say who their leaders are. People who don't vote probably think their vote doesn't matter, or who our leaders are, won't effect them. Both of these are false, how do you think votes get to the millions, ever vote matters. The people we choose to lead our country, can make our lives easier or worse, but the important thing is to give your opinion for the best possible candidate, rather than let everyone else decide for you. So get out there and stand up... I know I will.

I believe that so many people choose not to vote because they think their vote doesn’t matter. Others also say they don’t want to vote because they don’t know enough about the issues or don’t like the candidates. If one of my peers our family members told me they weren’t going to vote I would be upset with them. I would tell them that our country is one of the few countries that have the right to vote for who and how the country is ran. I would also explain to them how huge this election is especially. This is an extremely important election because of the way our economy is right now and a very historical election with the first African American running for president and the first female vice president.

In my opinion, I think it's very important to vote. That's because it's a time for your voice to be heard. It is making the decision to allow the right candidate to be our next president and expect him to do the right thing to make a change. Most people choose not to vote because of confusion, selfishness, or for other reasons. For example, my mom chose not to vote because she thinks that nothing would change. For the past years, nothing changed and it only got worse. In her opinion, whoever is president of this country it wouldn't make a difference in her life at all. I couldn't convince her to vote because I agree to what she said.I've never voted and I wasn't planning to vote until I heard something very inspirational today from a stranger. He said that even though you don't want to vote because of your selfishness and beliefs, its making a right choice to vote for someone because every vote counts and with you voting, it's helping someone who's not able to vote themselves that really want to.

It is important to vote because; if you don't vote, your voice won't be heard at all. But when your 1 vote is added and contributed to the rest of the votes, you can make a difference. And that is really what makes this country. There is power in numbers, and voting is the most powerful right given. So i say, might as well use it.

It's important to vote because it lets you pick the people that you want to represent you in in your country, state, city and community.Voting gives you a chance for your voice to be heard no matter what your opinion is. In a few days we have a chance to make history. This should be one of the most important election in our life time. If i was old enough to vote I wouldn't pass up that opourtunity to let my voice be heard.

I think that voting is very important. It was one of the most important rights we have in this country. I think that many young people don't vote because they don't think that their vote really matters or that it doesn't make a difference who's president, but if everyone who felt like that voted in 2004 it might have changed the outcome of the whole election. I am planning on voting this year because I understand how important it really is. The right to vote is what makes our country a democracy. I think that the only way to convince someone to vote is to educate them on how important it really is to vote.

I believe voting is important because it is a right of the people to elect who we want as our leaders in any form of government. We as people give the government our consent to govern us so it is our duty to vote to make sure the right people are in charge.I have never voted in an election but when I am old enough and will exercise my right to vote to make sure that the person I give my consent to govern me is a good leader.

It is important to vote because it gets us involved in what affects our lives everyday. it allows us to choose what we want and what we do not want. If none of us voted then we would not live in any form of a democracy which everyone seems to be preaching is what makes the United States so great. If we do not vote then we can not complain when something in the government happens that we do not agree with. I have already voted during early voting. I felt all grown up =]. It gave me sense that I actually have some control over the government that usually controls me.

Personally I feel that it's important to vote because you get to elect who you feel will make a change to you. Another reason that it's important is because you want to have your voice as a citizen heard and yo can't be heard just by complaining you need to take action. Voting is important because we give our consent to the person that is elected to do right by us but if we don't vote we could be giving our consent to any one. voting also gets us involved in what actions our government takes and that their views and outlooks on life our similar to ours. A lot people choose not to vote because they that their vote doesn't count but in reality it does..there is power in numbers. I am old enough to vote this year and I will definitely exercise my right to and Will try to encourage those that don't to vote because it's important.

It is important to vote because that is your voice in what the government does. Voting helps pick who you want to represent you in government. If you do not vote, someone you do not want will help pass legislation that you are completely against. If you want to avoid problems like that you have to vote and have your voice heard. If someone I knew, who could vote, was to lazy to vote I would tell them that If they like the way things are they should vote to keep things that way. If they do not vote things might change for the worse. I am not eligible to vote right now but if I could I would help do my part.

I think it is very important to vote and i believe that it is one of the best rights we have as United State citizens. I believe so many people don't vote because they may think selecting that president may not make a change for the that person or maybe because they make think their vote won't count. I think it is important to vote because we all as citizens need to speak up and let people no what we want and even though we are not speaking from our mouths its showing in the toll booths. To convince my peers and family members to vote is first asking them are they struggling and what do they want for this nation to be right.I would tell them that voting is a very precious right. We are able to have a choice of who to lead over us. I would tell them to vote because out in other countries some can't vote for a president they are stuck and what ever the leader says they have to do or they will die or worse. So i would tell them that we are privilege and they should vote. I have never voted but this up coming election i will be voting.

Voting is important, because your vote makes a change to your nation. As a citizen of US, your voice needs to be heard. One reason why I think people are not registering to vote, because they don’t know about the election or they don’t want their voices to heard. My family has already registered to vote for this election come up. The only thing that I need to convince them to do is to remember to vote, because they will be to busy and forget to go vote. No, I haven’t voted in an election before, but I may want to experience the chance of voting, but the only problem I have is which party I would like to be a part.

A great majority of the American population is lazy and don't want to take the time to go out and vote. Some can't decide who they want to vote for and so they choose to vote for no one and nothing. Others think that it is only one vote it can not make that much of difference. What the later doesn't seem to realize is that they are not the only ones who think that, and the more that do the less people there are out there voting. If no one votes nothing will ever be decided and we will be stuck in a standstill with no ware to go. Our government is run by voting. Everything, every decision made it first voted on. It is a very important opportunity not to mention an honor to be able to pick out next leader, so many people , countries to not have that freedom. We should respect and honor the opportunities we are given. Every vote matters in an election and that is what people our age need to understand. It is their one chance to truly make a difference in our society. Even if it doesn't seem that way, it is the truth.

Voting is a very important right that many people take for granted. The reason why it is so important is because many people have died in order for us to vote today. I believe that the main reasons why people choose not to vote is because they feel as though their vote will not count and some are undecided on who to choose. So for people who choose not to vote they can not complain about the country's issues and the person who is in charge. I feel this way because if you really wanted to see a change in the country you should have made your voice heard by voting. This would be the only way you know you could have made a change even if things did not go the way you wanted them to. What I would tell my peers or family members to convince them to vote is to get out there and vote because if you don't put your own input you can't complain about something you could have made a difference about. Unfortunately I have not been able to exercise my right to vote yet. However when I do finally turn 18 I will contribute to my community and country so I can be apart of the change I would like to see.

I believe it's important to vote, not only your voice will be heard as an individual it shows how you view the current election. It shows ones dedication for supporting the candidate you think that can up hold there views on making America a better place. By strengthening the economy, and other economic issues that we face today. There are a lot people that don't think there vote counts, but I believe if more people come out and vote then thats one more vote that counts to making a change. So take advantage of voting and let your voice be heard through your vote.

I believe it is important top vote because it allows the people to still have some sort of say on government. If there had been no votes there would be no democracy and government would not look for the peoples best interest. So when people vote it shows there right of freedom and the right to choose rather then have someone choose for you. Voting allows you to be closer to government and allows the public to get involved in it. It is essential to use one our most given rights and not see it as a negative but as a positive to alter the outcome of inflation as a future negative. People can choose to vote but they do not see how important this right given is to benefit them and their lives not.

Voting is a very important and essential process that allows our country to remain democratic. I think that it is very important to vote, and that everyone should vote and help to convince others to do the same. I believe that a good way to do this is to tell your friends or family about why voting is important, and all of the good things that come of it. I think that if they see all of the benefits, they will want to contribute to this important process. I think that volunteering at a local precinct is also imperative, because without volunteers, there could not be any voting. I think it would be very interesting to see how this process works, and by volunteering, you would get first hand knowledge on this. I have not yet voted in an election, but I know that when I am old enough to vote, I will definitely be doing so.

It is important to vote because if you don’t you may not like the person that runs this country. Also you wouldn’t be heard. It is important to vote because it is part of your duty as a citizen and so you have a say to who runs the country for the next four to eight years.  The issue that matters to me is for everyone to vote. I think this is important because it is a right that everyone has so everyone should be part of who is going to be president. People used to complain because not everyone got to vote and now anyone over 18 can so they should. It also matters to vote because it gives a chance for the whole world to decide on something together, and get involved in the decisions that are made for the United States. Debates are important because it lets the presidents argue about what they believe. It makes voting for voter’s easer, because they get to know what they think about the world. For every debate the people running for president talk about something different each time. Also it shows who is willing to do what ever it takes to become president. At what ever it takes. It's important to vote because everyone that can get a say in who they want. It is important also because if it was just a couple of people that vote then they could like something that other people might think. Also it gives the people a say in what they believe in and the president they like might believe the same things. So it’s important to say and vote for what you want because if not the person that comes in power might not be as good and then we could end up having another George W. Bush.

Voting is very important and essential. Who we pick as citizens is who will lead us for the next for years. By voting it says that we care about whom is next president is and shows how we feel about the Republican and Democratic parties as well as the minor parties. Also, it is important to vote because every candidate has different views and different plans that they would enforce if elected. Us, the people, vote for who they believe would be right for the job. If a family member or a peer of mine (all whom are eligible to vote), decide they don’t want to, I would definitely try to change their mind. I would tell them that by not voting, you are not utilizing you power as a citizen and repressing your right to vote. Voting is in the hands of the people, we tell the electoral collage who we think should lead us. Plus, your one vote could make a huge difference. It could even be the vote that decides who your state votes for! Volunteering at the local precinct would most likely be such a valuable experience for me but I would have to say that I would not do it. I know that might be strange to say but I do not think my schedule would allow me the time. This might sound like an excuse, and maybe it is, but I just wouldn’t be able to make the time. As for voting- I have not yet voted yet I am only fourteen. However, I am able to vote in the next election.

It is important to vote because it makes a difference in a way. You may think that your vote doesn't make any difference when they are choosing who is to be president but it does because the electoral college actually look at the amount of people that voted in your state to determine who wins that particular state. It is important to vote because it ensures you that you have a voice and a say on how your country, city or state is run. It is also important to vote because you get to choose who you want to run your country and who you want to represent you place of living. you get to choose the person who best interests you and who has the same ideas you might have on how they can make this place better. you get to choose based on the issues that best suits you. By you voting you can also help make a decision for a person that is underage to vote. you might be helping others. basically your vote is what counts the most. So everybody that is eligible to vote should go out and VOTE!

Voting allows all factions of society to be heard and contribute to the government. Some people might not vote because they feel the government doesn't affect them or that their vote doesn't affect the government. But in order to show the value of voting, we need to show what the current politicians and government has or hasn't done for the country and spread the word on how what we sometimes feel is an alienated government is changing our lives everyday because that fosters opinions on how "it should work" and brings more people to the polls. I unfortunately won't get to vote in this election.

I think every body should vote without thinking that their vote will not count. In order to give a vote , every body would try to learn about the candidates, about their policies. In that way way any person of the country could give a constructive criticism that would be helpful in building the society. The state of not giving vote is like that u have no interest in the country where live. Its like to give your right of freedom and let the people do what they want. Also, giving vote for your country is shows that the youth has the abilities to participate in the best interest of the country. If every one will vote then they could elect the person of their choice who they think is sensible. So, I think every body should vote to make a difference and using their rights.

People should vote because it is the most productive way to have our opinions sway what happens in our country. If we do not vote, what happens in the government may not be what the majority of citizens prefer. The idea of a federal republic falls when we do not utilize the opportunity to have a say in what occurs in our country, state, and cities.

It is important to vote as that our opinions can be voiced, even though the candidates are going to do what they want anyway. We are voting for the person that is better than the other and will not mess the U.S. up more than it all ready is. Many people do not want to vote, thinking that their opinion will not be heard because the elected official is doing what they want. If the majority of people do not like their official, they do not have to re-elect them and this allows us the choice of who is in office.

As the 2008 presidential election is coming up very soon you can’t go a day without hearing someone asking you if your 18 or turn 18 by November 4th. This election is very important and if I were eligible to vote I would register. Although I feel as if every vote counts but if I were not a resident of Pennsylvania but a resident of a smaller state like Delaware I don’t know if I would be so eager to vote. Because if I vote for candidate A but candidate B wins my state my vote is basically going no where. But voting for state opposed officials and mayors I believe it is import to go out and vote.

I think everyone who is eligible to vote should register and make their opinion heard. In my case i believe that young people between 18 and 22 do not vote because they do not have the responsibilities that in other case they would if they were not living with parents and/or going to college. A lot of the times that is the reason why young voters no not pay much attention to the politics, they do not have to face with the government or any economic issues. But as soon as they start to graduate from college they begin to worry and start becoming more independent individuals.

It’s important to vote because it voices your opinion. By voting in an election you are contributing on how you think our government/country should be run. If everyone voices their same opinion, they will be able to elect a president who will make a hopefully better change for our government. If you don’t vote because you think that you just one person and your vote doesn’t really count well you could be the one that changes the direction of the election. If everyone thought that then we wouldn’t have any to vote. I think it would be interesting to work at a local precinct because it is an interesting and an important “event.” Plus it only happens ever so many years. So, to be able to volunteer your time to see the process and help make sure all goes accordingly would be a really great learning experience. I haven’t been able to vote in an election because I’m only fourteen, but when I get the chance to vote I will make sure my voice is heard.

It is important to vote because if you don’t vote you can’t have a say in the government and the government does basically everything for you because they send troops to protect us and our freedom, they did the government bailout thing, and healthcare. I would say to someone to encourage voting is to say that in order not to have another Bush vote because every single vote in the U.S. counts and decides who the president will be. I don’t want to be a volunteering at my voting precinct because I can’t really help people well. I haven’t voted yet because I’m thirteen years old but I will vote in the next two elections because I will not be old enough still to vote.

It’s important to vote because the voice of the people is what moves this country. Without the voices of the people the country would not go anywhere. The people are the heart and soul of the country and there decisions and opinions are very important. I would give my family both positive and negative interpretations of each candidate and I would let them decide which president fits my family the best. I would be thrilled to volunteer at my local precinct. I am always ready to lend a helping hand and also getting a hands on approach towards the world. My experience voting made me feel like I did have voice and a say for our country I am proud that I had spent some of my time voting for my candidate.

It is important that you vote because if you don’t you will have to deal with a president that you dislike. They need to vote because a president could by elected by some people that don’t know what they are doing. They are just voting because of color or religion. I would vote because my vote might make them win the election. No.

It is Important to vote because voting lets us as the people of the United States of America choose our government leaders. I would say to my family and peers to convince them to vote that they need to realize what our condition our country would be in it we let just anyone lead our country. I would be interested in volunteering at my local precinct. I cannot vote yet but next election I plan to and I am already thinking about the Democratic Party.

I'm not 18 at the moment. So I don't really care about voting right now.

I believe that so many people choose not to vote because they feel like their voices are not really being heard and that their opinion does not count. It is very important to vote because voting has a major effect on our lives and the way we live. Like you do not want anyone in the white house you want someone there who can make things better then what they are now. I would tell my peers or family members that voting is a very important thing and if they want some type of change in the world they need to vote for the person who they think will give them that change. No I have not voted in an election yet but I cannot wait for the day I am able to vote. The day I turn 18 I am registering to vote and voting in any election that we have wether its for a new government official anything I will be out there voting.

I believe so many people choose not to vote because most of them think their votes wouldn't count or it wouldn't make a difference. After the invalid counting of the votes, people lose faith if their votes really mattered because there's some people voting more than once. It is important to vote because it's one of the options to get your opinions heard on who you think would be the best choice to govern our nation. I would say to my peers or family to stop complaining about this and that about a president and go vote. There's really no point to complain if you didn't go out and vote yourself. If I was 18 right now, I would probably vote and experience how it is like to be behind those curtains.

It is important to vote because it is important to be a part of your country. True citizenship is not just whether or not you live in the country, it is also how you have contributed to your country. Voting is contributing to your country because you have an input in what goes on in how the future will affect you. You choose the person you vote for, that person may have some of the same beliefs as you do, and will be your voice. Voting is a key part in making the country a whole. Together we stand, divided we fall.

Its important to vote to make your voice and opinion heard. By voting, you are stating how you think the government should be run. Even though your vote may not seem like a lot on its own, enough people voting as a whole for your candidate may get them elected. To convince my peers and family members to vote, I would tell them that they’re vote does matter. I would try to get them to register so they wouldn’t have an excuse not to vote. I think volunteering at my local precinct would be interesting because I would be able to see all the voters and hear they’re opinions. Also, it would be interesting to be so involved in such an important event. I have not voted in an election because I’m not old enough, but I will be able to vote in the 2012 election.

As a citizen, our basic right is voting . This is a best way to involve in our gov't. Elections is important to young people, because who going to be president will influence whole social system. Especially our future job and life. But many people choose not to vote. One reason is that most young people didn't involved too much in our society. They can't understand the differences between two policies. Since I am not an American citizen, I don't have right to vote. But I will convince my family members to vote. Even though some of them are citizens, they never voting. Since I learn more about election, I will tell them how the election important to every residents in this country

I believe that a lot of people do not vote because they feel that the election isn't a bid deal. A lot of people don't realize that the 2008 election is a very important one. If I wanted to convince my peers to vote, I would simply explain the economic crisis and explain how the next president will have to change the country. The change would further damage or boost the economy. It is important to vote so the issues you stand for will be handled according to your beliefs. I haven't voted in any election yet because by age I am not eligible. When I'm 18 I will practice my civil duty and vote.

Voting in presidential elections is not only important, in my opinion it is imperative. Our ancestors died in battle for us to have this privilege. This is one of the few countries where we decide who our next leader will be; in most countries people wish they had this opportunity. Some people don’t vote because of a couple of reasons. One they think that their vote will not matter, another reason is that they believe that all politics are the same and whoever gets voted in the country will be the same, other people just don’t care and don’t realize how important it is. I would tell my peers that this is the most important election of our lives. Our economy is in shambles, we need more health care, we need to slow down global warming, these are just a few problems that must be faced and we need to elect the right person to do it.

I think the primary reason why people would not vote is because they honestly think that their vote does not matter (especially with the issue of not counting votes in the 2000 election). I think it is important to vote simply to say that you contributed to the election (even if your selected candidate does not win). I would just talk to my peers and/or family about how contributing to a different view (by voting for a candidate) to try and convince them to vote. Since I am 17, I have not voted yet and I will not be able to vote in this historic election.

I have heard peers say that they are not going to vote because they think that their vote will not count or it will not matter. If everyone thought like that then nobody would vote. Voting is important because you get to be a part in deciding who will get to make laws that will affect you. I tell my peers that if they are not going to vote and they are eighteen and able to vote, then they shouldn't complain about the laws that the President makes. I have not elected in an election but I am going to.

I believe that so many people choose not to vote because not many people know that they are not only voting for the president. Due to this they believe that their vote doesn't matter because electoral votes are the only ones that "matter". It is important to vote because your aren't just choosing who is going to lead your country but you are helping them lead the country. We are doing this by voting on different issues and policies within our society. People complain that the government does everything wrong, but if you vote on what policy you like then you can't complain about them anymore. I would try to convince my peers and family to vote by informing them about the other issues they need to have a voice about. Also, that they aren't just doing this for them but for others and myself, and for those that can't vote yet. They are voting for me since I am not able to vote...

One main issue many would vote is that would like to see change happen to our country. They don't want a repeat of the last 8 years. It is important to vote so you can have a say in what matters to you. If you want something to happen, action must take place. One can not talk about wanting change and doing nothing about it. Many do not vote for they see that their vote won't make a change but even one vote can make all the difference. I have not voted or am allow to vote for this election but I soon hope to vote in the next one. I would tell others to vote if they want to have a better economy and have a change in their lifestyle.
